The Secret of Monkey Island ™: Special Edition App Reviews

I installed this game on a new 2011 MacBook Pro 13 inch, when I run the game the the fan ramps up like a jet engine and the computer gets EXTREMELY hot. I am not sure what this is do to but i run games which are much more graphically intense and this does NOT happen, im sure the game is good but I am posting this so you are aware of the possibility.

A game from one of the best genres ever created and one of the best series ever imagined. The Monkey Island collection is laugh out loud fun for every age!

Having never played this game when it first came out decades ago, there is no nostalgia value here for me. Its really just a slow, cheesy, 1980s computer game. I bet when it first came out 25 years ago or so it would have been fun and entertaining. Now, its just a waste of 10 bucks, in my opinion.

Having played this in my youth and listing it as one of my all-time favorites, I ignored the requirements and downloaded this on my 2.1Ghz MacBook, with 4GB of RAM and Intel X3100 integrated graphics, and it has run perfectly fine for me, despite the explicit warning that Intel integrated graphics are not supported. Ive had no problems with it whatsoever, and it continues to be as great a game as it was back then. Highly recommended!

Ive tried about six times to download this from the App Store. It keeps saying that the game is damaged and to delete it and try to download it again. I know my computer has the system requirements. Does anyone else have this problem?

I remember playing this on my old Amiga back in the early 90s! I am very happy with this remake!! They stayed true to the original game and even improved it with character voices, high def remastered music, amazing new artwork and sound FX. I had no problems on my i7 imac (8GB Memory), not that I was expecting any problems... I always dreamed that they would remake this game, and they finally did!!! I am really really REALLY hoping that they come out with the second (and eventually) THIRD monkey island for mac!!!! hey, put up the fourth one too for mac!! GREAT JOB LUCASARTS!!!!

This game is amazing and all, except for one thing. On my iMac running 10.7, the game plays the first few cut scenes then craches before or while it is loading the actual gameplay. But the other hand, works just fine on my Macbook Pro running 10.6.6. Ill give 5 stars when they fix this issue. Othrt than that the gameplay is great, works extremely fast, and the voices are extremely clear.

I had a ball playing this through again. The one I really want is Curse (you just gave cheese to a lactose intolerant volcano god!!) but this is a great substitute until someone gets around to that one. The puzzles, for the newbie, are true to their own odd logic, once you get the hang of it, and hours of entertainment will be had. Remember, kids, the poodles are only sleeping.

I am personally a huge fan of the Monkey Island series. As a kid, i started off with the 2nd and the 3rd. Never played the first one until i downloaded this game for my MacBook Pro. Yes, it gets hot, but oh well.....it is what it is. Its amazing how you can switch back from the newly rendered out version and the original version by pressing ZERO. Great job by the animators and the voice actors. Simply a great great game! Takes me back to my childhood. Such a fun game. Just use the Ctrl and the Alt/Option button. ......now if they could only bring Leisure Suite Larry 7 to the Mac......

The original Monkey Island was one of my favorite adventure games of all time so I was excited to see this remake become available. They didnt just blow up the graphics. Theyre actually redone in high resolution 1920 x 1080 glory and they look fantastic! The voice acting is also very well done. There is a built in hint system thats a nice touch. Aside from that its the same old fun story with clever dialogue and colorful characters. The only downside is I found the interface to be a bit on the awkward side. Unlike the original the verbs and inventory arent visible because the graphics take up the entire screen. You have to press a key on the keyboard, or keyboard equivalents, to bring these things up. It takes a little getting use to but eventually its not so bad. I still prefer the layout in the original game however. Nevertheless this is a great remake and with such a low price is well worth it for new players and old players alike!

The game is great, but for some reason it just hanged at the end of part 1 just before sailing with the crew. Could someone please send me a saved game starting the part 2? Thanks, AA.

I hadnt played this game in its original incarnation back in the 90s, so I came at it fresh in this version. Ive gotta say, I loved every minute of it. I found the puzzles genuinely puzzling, the humor genuinely funny, and the music very catchy. The product feels very tight and well-produced, and aside from a few unhelpful hints from the hint system, I would recommend it to anyone looking for a lovely pick-it-up-and-put-it-down casual game. Great fun!

Looked forward to playing this game... Mac heats up very quickly and then shuts off.

I played this game a lot back in the day so i had to try it, the graphics are cool and its a pretty good remake, but it tends to freeze up im 28% into the game now and all of the sudden it froze up on me and wont let up, witch is not so cool im running a 2010 macbook pro i5

Is there any way to hear them talk spanish??

Bought this exp[ecting agreat game from Lucas Films, but sorely disappointed. Its fun for about the first ten minutes, then when you have to go back and forth and back and forth, it just gets annoying/ Trying to get insults to bet the sword master, please. Off to one side of the island, then back to the other and back and forth and back and forth… a lot of stupid repetition and not a lot of challenge. The characters are cute and it could be fun, but its just a miss. Wasted my money.

I loved these games when I was a kid - so much that I downloaded them to play in classic on my old Macbook Pro. Now that Ive upgraded to Lion, I dont have classic anymore! When I found out about this remake, I was so happy. The voice acting is great, and it really keeps the spirit of the original while making it look way better. Please remake Monkey Island 2 and 3!!
